Bill Kruse, a Hawai‘i Meals on Wheels client, recently passed away, but not before leaving us with sage, practical wisdom.
Bill had a unique home: a 27-foot sailboat in the Ala Wai Harbor. Our staff had to straddle the pier and his boat to deliver his meals.
“Have fun while you’re young,” Bill would always tell the staff.
He took his own advice to heart and lived his dreams. He lived a full life and had courage to explore new experiences. Bill always had a story to share about his adventures. He would talk about his boat that was handmade from a single tree in New Zealand, which is now a lost art.
Hawai‘i Meals on Wheels had the privilege of serving Bill for six years from 2008 to 2014. When his health declined, Bill decided to move back to California to be close to his niece. Bill wore the Hawai‘i Meals on Wheels T-shirt proudly and we’re proud all he achieved in his life.
Mahalo, Bill, for giving us so much. You will always be a part of the Hawai‘i Meals on Wheels ‘ohana!
