Single older women in Hawaii are three times more likely than married women to be living in poverty. So says a recently released post from the Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work at the University of Hawaii.
Hawaii Meals on Wheels corroborates that conclusion as more than half of our clients who live alone are within 150% of the poverty level. And in 2016, 60% of our clients were women.
Here’s a view of our 2016 clients by age and gender: We send a big mahalo to everyone who continues to support our efforts to make sure our elders live independently in health and dignity!
