BTS with Aunty Tammy Smith and the KTER4U team! As one of our kitchen partners, KTER4U prepares 500 frozen meals weekly and 30 hot meals every day for kūpuna on our routes. That takes a lot of work! Half of these meals are customized by diet and texture, like chopped or pureed. The most requested medically tailored meal type is diabetic/low sodium meals. “I might not know every kūpuna by face, but I know them by their plate,” shared Aunty Tammy. “If a kūpuna can’t chew well, we adjust the texture. It’s not about throwing everything in a blender. If it’s a minced loco moco, you’ll still see the egg, the gravy, the meat—layered just right. The work is not easy. This is all about passion. It’s about dignity and connection.” This morning, we got to see for ourselves how much aloha goes into making kūpuna meals. Aunty Tammy, her husband, granddaughter, and cousin were hard at work cooking, prepping, and packing frozen and hot meals.
